John Douglas Hall, in his other role, has been appearing at Gadsby's Tavern for over 41 years. He plays and sings late 18th and early 19th songs, accompanied by a lute-guitar (called a German Laute). His entertainment is first an address to the room where he references the day and date of the evening (200 years to the day). That being only a few minutes, the rest of the night is much more subdued. He then visits from table-to-table, particularly sensitive to the circumstances of each set of diners, offering some conversation and even a song. The emphasis is on the enjoyment of the patrons - not a forum for the entertainer's talents. It is a unique addition to any occasion, from the intimate to the more animated of occasions at the tavern.
